Reproductive Health in Trans and Gender Diverse Patients

Reproductive Health in Trans and Gender Diverse Patients Special Collection

Reproduction has a growing collection of reviews and research articles focused on transgender medicine.

This special collection is led by Molly Moravek, Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Henry Ford Health, MI, USA, Dr Gene deHaan, Medical Director Gender Pathways Clinic NW Permanente, USA, and Vasantha Padmanabhan, Department of Pediatrics, University of Michigan, MI, USA.

Approximately 4.5% of adults and up to 8.4% of young people worldwide identify as transgender or gender diverse (TGD) (Scheim et al.  DOI: 10.1371/journal.pone.0299373). As such, there’s an increase in TGD patients reaching reproductive age. Unfortunately, a major challenge in providing high-quality reproductive health care for TGD people, is the lack of knowledge around gender-affirming treatments and their impact in meeting the reproductive needs unique to these patients.

The aim of this collection is to address this need, by covering important topics of relevance to the reproductive health of TGD people.
