The post-coital discharge of LH was studied in ovariectomized rats primed with steroids and injected with drugs that modify oestrous behaviour. It was found that LH release was absent in receptive rats treated with p-chlorphenylalanine which also exhibited abnormal oestrous behaviour. Rats primed with oestrogen and progesterone and injected with dl-amphetamine showed no release of LH after mating and a decreased lordotic response.
